Notice of 2025 Dues Increase
December 01, 2024
Dear BPOA Members,
We appreciate your membership and the support you've provided for our efforts at BPOA. We continue to expand and improve the association to better serve your rental housing business needs.
In 2024, we faced numerous battles to defend and protect our interests, both in local and state legislatures as well as the ballot box. Although we didn't win every fight, we ultimately made significant process. BPOA along with its sister organization, the Berkeley Rental Housing Coalition, successfully blocked legislative actions that could have had serious repercussions for rental housing providers.
To date we have:
- Successfully pushed off the enactment of the Tenant Opportunity to Purchase Act (TOPA) legislation
- Preserved your right to raise rents in between tenancies
- Blocked rent control applicability on single-family homes, condos, and some Accessory Dwelling Units
- Elevated Berkeley property owners at the state legislative table
- Prevented Michael Weinstein, founder of the AIDS Healthcare Foundation, from using organizational money to fund the fight against Costa-Hawkins
To ensure we can sustain a fully staffed operation to meet your needs effectively, BPOA will increase dues in the coming year. Starting January 1, 2025, the new dues structure will include a $395 base fee and an additional $35 per unit. The political assessment levied in 2024 will not be collected in 2025, although we encourage you to make an optional $25 donation to CalRHA, the organization that helped to defeat Prop 33.
Navigating the rental housing landscape in Berkeley can be challenging and filled with potential pitfalls. Our aim is to provide information, education, and guidance to empower our members for success. We trust that you will continue to acknowledge the exceptional value derived from our organization.
Sincerely,
Krista C. Gulbransen
Executive Director
